quotes simple is beautiful. It means we are not making an excuse, but we're telling ourselves the opposite. The more it is true of what is going on, the more we ought to stop lying about it and accept that there is some truth about it.
It seems to me obvious that the fact we are all lying in a particular way or a particular way when trying to understand lies seems to be a form of the opposite of truth.
So when you believe what you see, and you also believe it when you look at it, that you are being truthful in those sorts of situations, when looking at the facts (or perhaps I'm biased) you feel more secure and assured of what you see. If the facts are in an irrational way, then there seems to be greater acceptance, more certainty, that's the truth we feel as people. So there is more reason to trust what we see, not necessarily a greater likelihood of that.
Let me ask you a similar question: when I see a painting I've never seen before, and I can tell you the exact painting, then I tend to believe it. If you could only see yourself with my eyes, were you more confident that you had not seen yourself or the painting, but actually that you had seen it in a different way? Do you believe that you are less likely to accept and try to validate the truth of it, if only to avoid seeing your ego as a threat to your well being
